Global Warming Controversy

The Global Warming Controversy is a dispute about nature and consequences of global warming. The biggest issue is whether or not humans have anything to do with this increase in global temperature, or if this is something the Earth regularly goes through. What are your views on global warming? Why is global warming a problem? What can we do about global warming? Is it really a problem, or are we just in between ice ages? Earth has always warmed and cooled, so why do scientists think that humans are causing global warming?

Please visit these sites to get different views on the controversy if  you are unfamiliar with the subject. Thank you.

humans cause global warming because we all are full of nothing but hot air...lol, nah its all the pollution we cause, but i mean seriously; we should have seen it coming. how could we be between ice ages if its global warming, we should be worried about the lands flooding, seriously flooding cities being destroyed, lives lost. its gonna be some lonely guy trying to pull a noahs ark outta his ass to save humanity or what not. Scientists have to have someone to blame for global warming, why not the pollution we produce, i mean its not the planet is closer to the sun, and its not beacause of the methane coming from a cows ass, well maybe the cows could be at fault to.

global warming is a very serious problem. Pullution is a major cause of global warming. That is places like Los Angeles have it the worst, because there is so much pollution there. Global warming is really a problem, we are not just between ice ages in my mind. Scientists may think that humans are causing global warming because we are the ones who are driving the cars that run on gas and everyday a new invention is made that can somehow pollute the environment. However, earth has always warmed and cooled by itself, so we humans are not to blame. All i know is that something major needs to be done about global warming, because it is only going to get worse at the years go by.

Scientists would like to blame someone, so they blame humans. I think that the earth warms and cools on it's own. We had an ice age, now we are warming, and in years we will have another ice age.
The problem with global warming is that the animals who live in the ice cold will no longer have a place to live because that is what they need. It sucks that they animals will die because of the temperature is changing on them, but there is nothing we can do about it.

I think global warming is something that we as humans can only help up to a certain point. There are only so many things we can do to prevent the pollution we put into our air. Hybrid cars, carpooling, and recycling can only go so far, I think. Also, for every person that does recycle and everything, there are many many more people that don't. Honestly, I don't think global warming is going to affect us in our lifetimes, but I do think it will affect our grandchildren and probably their children. So in order to make sure that they have a good life and live healthy is to try and improve global warming. I do think that global warming is about 75 percent because of us and maybe 25 percent the Earth's natural path. I think global warming is a problem because it will inevitably have some major affects on the world in 100 years or so. I think that scientists think that humans are just speeding up the process of global warming rather than being the sole cause of it. As long as people are using cars and factories and everything, there will always be pollution, but I do think that people are seriously trying to change the ways they live and trying to accomodate this new age of "living green".

I'd like to think that global warming is not real, but what you see on TV is that it is very real. I would really have to believe that we are probably not helping the situation anyway, with all the gases we put into the air with transportation and factories, it makes sense. But then again I could see scientists making it more of a bigger thing just to scare us into treating the earth better. So basically, I say global warming is real, but not as fast and furious as they say. We still have time to change things.

I think that global warming does happen naturally, to some extent. But that people are making it worse. Global warming is a problem because it is melting the polar icecaps and making it hard for the animals that inhabit that enviroment to survive. We can stop polluting so much to slow it down, because I think that no matter what we do there is no way to fully stop it from happening. It warms natually. Scientests have done studys showing that we are having a negitive effect on the earth.

I have to be honest, I didn't visit any of those websites but I did see An Inconvenient Truth, and aside from being somewhat bored, it was actually pretty interesting. Now I normally wouldn't trust the guy that invented the internet, Al Gore, but I think he's worth his wait on this one. Of course we are causing this problem. People pollute without mercy. They don't care about future generations. We live in the Here and Now society, where all we think about is the present. We don't think about what that Mcdonald's bag we threw out the window will do. We don't even question, who will pick it up? Somebody has to. And like that sweet delicious Mcdonald's bag, somebody has to clean up this problem before it escalates out of control.

I am not completely sold on the idea of that we are the entire cause of global warming. I am unsure about why the global warming is occuring. It really could be a warming period before another ice age. I am not sure about the whole time frame in which the earth is supposed to flood from the ice caps melting, but I think it will be a very long time from now. I do believe that our effect on global warming is a problem that should be lessened.

I believe we are the cause of alot of problemswith earth today. We are constantly in and out of space , entering earths atomosphere over and over, for what? Our own greed of technology! Sattlelite tv, cable, internet, cell phones, ect. We as men used to just go up into space for observation and for weather purposes, but now we have thinned the ozone layer that it has become a major problem. I don't care personally for myself but I am concerned about my great and great-great grand children. We are not going to be here forever any way...right?

Global warming is a huge deal and it is critical to the continuation of our planet that we do something about it. The pollutin goes in to the atmosphere causing a huge film acting as insallation, then trapping the sun beams that are supposed to retreat back out to the atmosphere.. Our planet is acting like one big hot box and one day it will be to late.

Global Warming has always happened and Global Cooling has always happened, and people have nothing to do with it. Thats how God set it up and that is how he intended to be.People have nothing to do with Global Warming if we could control the temperature of a globe then we could control the weather, we could control the climate, there wouldn't be any more famines, and people wouldn't be starving. These are my opinions, the internet seems to be universally of the opposite opinion, and I cant find anything to support my opinion, but that doesn't mean I'm going to change it. Just one more thing, the Global Warming scare is a hysteria produced by politicians to pursue their own agendas.

Global warming is a tricky situation. I think if anyone knew what the true reason for it was they would have said it by now. I believe saying humans are the reason for the world coming to an end is just a cheap way to push the problem on humanity. I think that the scientists dealing with this issue were probably not getting enough support financially from the U.S. so they decided to blame global warming on us and mae it "our" problem. Now people are starting to get scared and believe that we really can change whats going on. Well i hate to say it but most likely that is not true. Now that these people have your attention and everyones afraid to die they are going to string us as long as we buy into it. Global warming does not phase me.

To be quite honest, I've never really thought about global warming. I think that humans have something to do with it. Humans are polluters. Some of global warming is natural, but most of it is our fault. We can try to not pollute as much through more hybrid cars and earth friendly products. I don't know if global warming is a problem that we can solve. Scientists have to blame something, and humans are the most logical choice.

We are in the beginning of an iceage, the period when weather gets really crazy. There is evidence of this in fossil records and ice boring. I love how everyone is so hyped up on pollution, during the industrial revolution the skies were BLACK, factories made the air almost unbreathable. I do think we need to manage our pollution and resources better, but we don't need to rash about it. The one thing that could help cut waste tremendously, is the one thing we never hear, stop buying crap. Bottled water, prepackaged foods, electronics, and a whole slew of other things create needless waste from manufacturing to the dump.

I believe Jim Hansen's chart on sea level, temperature, and CO2 levels clearly shows that global warming is a major problem and that if we continue to build up greenhouses gasses we will see sea levels 10-20 meters higher than they are in the next 100 years. I believe global warming is a major problem and if it is not dealt with soon it will have catastrophic effects. Scientists carbon date ice pack core samples to determine what the CO2 levels were at different times and because CO2 levels have increased by 35% in the last 100 years we are in trouble if nothing is done.

I do believe that humans may have affected global warming, but i also believe that such things as an ice age and global warming are natural. I think that the things we do such as excessive driving, power plants, and other such things that cause pollution may speed up the time we have between ice ages. Yes we are doing things to hurt our planet, but we are not doing anything that wouldn't happen eventually.

I don't know a lot of facts about ice age/global warming cycles, but I think that we absolutly have an affect on our planet including global warming. It's happening at such a fast pace compared to previous changes in atmosphere. The government should be doing a lot more to change the way Americans treat our environment. We should all be recycling, we should focus more on local and less on global production and consumption. If we kept things more local there would be less production over our goods (especially foods)in turn it would have less of an impact on the environment.

When asked this question I didn't really know what to say. But I read over some of the links provided and it seems like the earth warms and cools itself. Like mentioned by another student, I also think that scientist feel like something has to be causing this problem so they try to study what humans do to blame them for it. I feel that humans have very little or no control over global warming. I think that we are in the middle of ice ages and the earth just goes through its cycle of warming up and cooling down. Its nothing that humans will effect.

Global warming is definitely a major problem that the whole world needs to learn about. I know that the Earth has a habit of raising and lowering temperatures, but I still believe that humans are partially responsible. The way we pollute our world is terrible and we are now seeing the after-effects of it. I don't know if there is anything we could really do to prevent global warming from getting any worse. Automobiles are a huge factor in pollution and people are always going to be driving, so we need to buy the cleanest, most efficient vehicles. We just need to advance automobiles to make them cleaner.

I think global warming is a problem and it will only get worse and the years go on. With our dependence on fossil fuels and the buildup of greenhouse gases global warming is happening faster and faster. We need to find alternatives to gas and oil quickly or we will find ourselves with rising sea levels and other problems. Global warming is a problem because we are destroying our environment. More and more animals are going extinct because and climate shifts. Sea levels are rising because of higher temperatures at the poles. The oceans are becoming desalinized because of melting ice caps which throws off the ocean life. Problems will only get worse. Global warming could be helped by numerous different things. Carpooling, riding your bike, and recycling are just a few ways to help the environment. Scientists think humans are causing global warming because of all the pollution we create with running our factories and driving all our cars. These are the main contributors to greenhouse buildup and ozone depletion. Hopefully we can get rid of our dependence of fossil fuels and start helping out the environment rather than destroying it.

Global Warming is a huge problem. Humans are one of the lead causes because of the pollution we put off. Glaciers are melting more now than they ever have. It's a proven fact. Carbon Dioxide is a leading cause too. In certain parts on our world temperture rate is being risen every year. In 26 years, if global warming continues to progress, one glacier will have melt near the artic and will raise the ocean level to 8 feet i think it is. Only 8 feet from one glacier. Thats just one glacier. Global Warming will continue to progress and in time our worlds oceans sea level will be raised over time.

Scientists think humans are causing global warming because they are!!! Think about how much pollution we produce, especially America. Though you'll never see Prsident Bush do anything about it, there are plenty of things we could do to prevent global warming. One thing we could do is not only use more fuel-efficient vehicles, but use alternate sources of fuel as well, such as: diesal, peanut oil, vegetable oil, solar power, and many others. Also, huge corporations need to stop putting so much carbon monoxide in the air. On another note pertaining to a healthy planet Earth, corporations and citizens need to reuse as much as possible. Currently, there is a glob of plastic in the ocean that's the size of Texas, no joke. And that's just one of the globs, there are millions all over the ocean.

One could argue that global warming is a creeping environmental change. "Creeping" means it is an incremental change that is only marginally detectable from one year to the next. Today's atmospheric content of GHGs is not much different from yesterday's. Tomorrow's is not much different than today's. However, in a few years, those incremental changes will have added up to a major environmental change. Often by the time those changes have combined, the environmental change will have turned into an environmental crisis. In this regard, global warming is similar to other creeping environmental changes such as air pollution, acid rain, ozone depletion, soil erosion, deforestation, and so forth.

I believe there is proof to humans being a big part to global warming. There is proof of temperature increase and increase in CO2 in areas where various amounts of destruction to the trees. The air pollution we create and chemicals we dump are also very harmful to the vicious cycle affecting the ozone layer and global warming.
