Are some sports today as exciting as they were back in the 90s? If not, which ones do you think are less exciting? Why have these posrts become boring? Have our lives became so busy we don't have time for sports anymore? Why? Are sports just not fun to watch anymore? Is it because of the money? Fame? Advertising? Too much focus on the individual over the team?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I do think sports today are not like sports back in the day. What I think is happening is that players are just focused on the money and their image, they focus too much on themselves instead of playing a good clean game. There is not as much teamwork as much as there used to be anymore.

Sports are not what they used to be. Now its more ball hogging and fame instead of team work and focusing on the game.

I really do not feel that sports have changed that much. They're still boring, but okay, that's not the point. I can't think of one person who has not heard of Babe Ruth. He is from way back when and we still know him. If we are going to say that "fame" in sports is all people are concerned about, well they were concerned about it back then, too. I don't feel that athletes today are concerned about money, but they want to be recognized for how well they play the game. So, they step it up and do what they need to do to get in the spotlight. Fame comes with being a professional athlete. There are cameras at the games, pictures in magazines, nation-wide footage, etc. I mean DUH an athlete is going to be in the spotlight and want to show off their skills. I'm sure anyone else would do the same. I think that athletes still play with a passion, just as they did "back then." Why would one do something that they are not passionate about?

Sports today are not like sports back in the day. People are thinking about how much money they are getting paid and making sure that they do not get hurt at the same time. They never want to get there hands dirty or do something for the community. They are only looking out for them sleves not anyone else. Also there are fewer sports that are played as a team and back then they had more and more of team games.

I really think that the sports back in the 90's were a lot more exciting then they are now. For one example, I think that back then professional atheletes played for the love of the game and not all for the money. It seems as if today's atheletes are not playing for a pupose but more for a dollar. In fact the last olympic games the United States men's basketball finshed very low when they should have finished first. In the 90's when Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman played with the Chicago Bulls they were a team. When Jordan went to the Olympics, his team won gold because they played for the love of the game and not just for fame and money. I think that we pay professional atheletes way too much money nad that effects how they play the game. I find that I prefer watching college sports over professional sports now, because there is more heart. I blame that on the idolistic nature that we give professional atheltes now.

Some sports are the same and some have changed. Football and baseball are just as good now as they were back in the day and I like watching them either way. Basketball on the other hand has changed. At least professional ball. I remember days when I would look forward to watching a game on TV. Now I dont really care for it. The reason, in my opinion, is because basketball is all about the money. Now granted there are guys in other sports that are for the money too but it seems like most are in basketball. Back in the day the game was played for the love of it. Not anymore.

sports today are not like sports back then. back in the day, everybody played a sport because they were good in it. now a days, you have athletes getting locked up for stupid shit, spending all their money, and just thinking about how much money their making. sports were way better back then.

There are still die hard, loyal fans in the world today. It seems there really isn't as much hype for the athletes of today. The era of Michael Jordan, Ryan Sandberg, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGuire are part of history. For baseball, I think the fans are still involved. I used to watch NBA basketball, and NFL football, but I don't anymore. I think it is because I have other important things to do, other than sit on the couch for a few hours watching the games. I think people can relate, and miss watching the games. It doesn't seem to be a necessity, plus the Xbox and PS3 are taking priority over watching the real thing.

I think sports today are not as exciting as they were back then. Lets take boxing for instence, Back then with boxers like George Formen, Muhammid Ali, and others made the sport great but now the most exciting class of boxers are lightweights. Heavyweights have become so lazy.

I agree that sports are not as exciting today as they used to be. I think it is mostly because they are more worried about the fame and making a living than they are about the game. Playing sports to them is more like a job than it is a game

I think that sports today are mostly same except a couple of things. For one, NBA no longer has the ratings that it used to back in the 90's. When the Chicago Bulls ran the 90's with six NBA championships and Michael Jordan at the top the ratings for the NBA were at a all time high. Nowadays there are highly overpaid street thugs with ratings that resemble it. I think college players played more for the love of the game in the 90's and nowadays they play more for the paycheck and to leave early for the NBA draft, and NFL draft. I think that players nowadays should play more for the game and less for the money.

I beleive that like anything else the glory fades because it has been around for a long time so it's not as new and exciting as sports were when they began. Sports also began when the world was at a slower pace so people had more time to enjoy them, along with wars happening at the same time it gave people hope and something to hold on to and look forward to. Even with our war today I don't think as many people enjoy sports as they did in the past, there doesn't seem to be as much heart in the game and players seem to be playing for themselves not the team. There's a saying that states "you're only as strong as your weakest link" and I think the players can be more concerned about they're own fame and fortune therefore they aren't strong team players, which hurts the entire team. A win doesn't mean as much when you get paid regardless win or lose. Amy Marx
