Muslims and Christians

Why do Muslims and Christians have a conflict over religion? Are Christianity and Islam so different? I don't expect many people to know much about the Islamic religion or about Muslim people in general, but please share your views, even if they're based on limited knowledge. If you are a Christian, what are your views on Islam and on Muslims? If you know something about Islam, or if you know any Muslims, in your view, what is their opinion of Christianity. Why do you think people of these two faiths have had problems over the years?

If you have time, please read a little on Islam before you response. Here's a site that might be helpful.

Thank you for your help!

Well most of the disputes have been over holy ground, as the two religions share much of it in the middle east. Even different sections of the Muslim religion are in dispute. One huge difference is that christianity is a peaceful religion, atleast modern christianity, while Muslims believe they must fight a holy war against those who threaten their faith, and also believe that self-sacrifice while fighting for their cause is the most holy way to die.
please correct me if i'm wrong about anything, i dont mean to offend anyone.

This growing hatred has been going on for years now and the reason is the extremist of both sides will never consider peace. The only reason that there are religious wars is when you have a bunch of extremist. We saw first hand was the muslim extremist did on September 11th. They displayed our hatred towards us by taking those planes and running them into the world trade center. The Christian extremist and Jews have responded by pounding Pakistan like our lives depended on it. I believe that there should never be a war over religion. It's your religion! Believe what you want to believe! I thought religion was supposed to be a good thing in this world... maybe not so much!

I feel that they have conflicts over religions because they want people to see what they see in there religion. i dont believe that any religion is different ok because they pray or worship a different god that doesnt me anything in the end they all pray and worship to somebody. I am a catholic and i dont have any special views on any kind of religions i consider every religion to be the same. I feel that they have had problems because they really dont know what to do and that they just feel like getting into it.

It is my understanding that Christians and Muslims both read out of the old testament. The differences come to play with the New testament and the Koran. The Koran has some beautiful passages in it as does the New Testament. I think that as a general rule Christians and Muslims can both be peaceful religions. The problem lies in the religiously extreme groups that practice either religion and set out with their own agenda's to prove their own points to the world. That is when things get crazy and wars break out. In listening to some Muslim people, they are deeply saddened by people who are invovled in terrosist acts in the name of the Muslim faith. Christianity really has had their fair share of leaders who have also done horrendous acts in the name of the Christian faith. If people would truly follow the teachings of either, these things would not happen. Unfortunately, people often start worship other people and following a leader's ideas instead of practicing their true religion.

Personally, and this is JUST my opinion, it is because each thinks that their religion is superior to the other. This is a common theme in the world of religion. If we are all worshiping GOD, who gives a damn what we call him or who does it better? I personally don't think that God goes by one name: I think he goes by a great many different names, depending on what part of the world you live in. Personally, when I see organized religion in the world today, I see a whole lot of hatred. I don't think that this hatred is a very God-like characteristic. I think we should all stop hating on each other and realize that we are one race -- the human race!

Mulims and Chirstians shouldnt be fighting over anything if their God teaches them that fighting is wrong, or talking down upon to ohers is also wrong. Me being a chrsitain i learned that you shouldnt speak down on anybody ,know matter how different the other person is. If hear a pastor talk about how other religons are wrong for worshiping another God, then the pastor is not true to the word of God. My firend dosent beleive in Jesus but I dont argue with him over that, its his opinion that have no other choice to respect. the people that do argue over who religion is better, or has the better God are not true to there religion. People that aruge are phony and just seek extra attention, so to get that attetion why not argue. IF you are a man oor women thats true to your religon, you would walk away fromt he argument and stay true to your belifes and not judge another persons belief.

The main conflict is over the Holy Lands. The land is very important to both religions' history and therefore they both want control over it. I know I would want all of the land if it had to do with my history.

The worship matter doesnt seem to be much different. I am a christian and I know that God has many different names. I believe ( correct me if I am wrong) that he is even referred to as Allah in the Bible as on of his many names. The views are very similar and they both share the old testament as part of thier holy books. The only difference is the New Testament with the Christians.

From Barb Beals:

I wasn't aware there was a conflict between Muslims and Christians. I think that it's the ones that take their religion and go crazy with it. Islam is a peace loving faith, as well as Christianity. The conflict is when two different sectors go extreme. I think that there will always be conflict until one country or another just nukes the other. I think that's what it will come to.

From Debra Porter:
I think that Muslims and Christians have a conflict the same reason that ANY religion has a conflict with the other. Every person thinks that their religion is the best, which goes for Muslims and Christians too. There just seems to be a lot more conflicts between these religions. I think it's because of 9/11, illegal immigration, terrorism and a slew of other things. For example, do you see a lot of conflict between Christians and Catholics? No, because they are both widely known in this country. But Islam is not seen as much, and most people that practice this religion are immigrants which surfaces lots of other issues besides just the religion. I really don't have any views on their religion, they can do whatever they want to do. People hav a right to choose who or what they want to worship. So it doesn't bother me that they have different religious practices, it just bothers me that most of them here don't belong here legally, and the fact that you get a lot of door to door people trying to shove their religion in your face. That is what bugs me.

I think they have a conflict over religions because they believe in different things and think one religion is better than the other. I dont think there is that much different, sure they have there differences and similatires but that is true for all religions. I am catholic and have gone to a catholic school since i was in kindergarten thru high school. We leaerned about all the different religions and how most of them are similiar and have the same prinicples, they just do things differently than others. I think that Islams and Muslims religions are different than mine, they have different beliefs. I agree wtih Dan when he talks about 9/11. I think it was totally wrong of the muslims to act in such a way!

I have a problem with religion overall. In my eyes most of what is wrong with the world today is due to religion. Religion in my eyes seperates people, and this is the exact opposite of what religion is suppose to be about. I see Christians, Muslims, Jewish faith, Hindo, and every other religion as "Gangs" if you will. Everyone thinks there religion is better and this ends up causing conflict amongst us as people, just as the Bloods vs the Crips. Now I'm not saying that religion people are violent by no means, but you have a select few who are to the extream and act out harshly. I hold no ill will towards anyone who pratices any religion, but the whole bickering about whos religion is the right religion is freaking getting old. Everyone pratices a religion based on something or someone they didn know. We have the Bible which is suppose to be the teachings of Christ.Thats all well and good, but no one knows for fact that everything in the bible is the word of god. I compare this to a rumor in highschool. You can say one thing to someone and by the time it gets back to you its changed a million different times by those who wanted to add their 2 cents. I dunno I maybe I'm just lost and I'm sorry if this offends anyone of any faith who migh read this, but this is my outlook.

People have conflicts over religion because we all believe in something different. We want everyone to believe what we believe. We are so judgemental on other religions, what is the point of religion at all? You can believe in God, or whatever and don't have to be included in organized reliion. To me, religion causes more hate and problems than anything else.

I think they have a conflict over religion because they are different! I don't think that they are much different, i mean most religions are similar in some way shape or form. I don't really know too much about this topic, but i do know that i wrote a paper about it in world histroy and they do have a lot of similarites but they are different because they have different beliefs and because they dress different.
