Britt's Question....

Should gay marriages be legal in the United States? Why or why not? What are the advantages and disadvantages to legalizing gay marriage? Do you know any gay couples? Many gay couples live together as if they are married anyway, so why not let them legally marry so they can receive the same benefits that other married couples receive?
Thanks for your time and patience

I think that gay marriages should be legal in the U.S. I don't think it is fair that some states have it legalized and others do not. The only part with gay marriages that I do not agree with is when a gay couple adopts children. The kids are the ones who are going to get made fun of and suffer from their parents actions. I think that if a gay couple is able to be happily married, then that is where it should stop. I'm sure that most of them want to have kids as well, but when it is not physically possible, then it probably shouldn't be happening anyway. I know a few gay people, but not any actual gay couples. I think that they should be able to get married so they can get the benefits of married couples.

I'll repeat what I said to someone else . . .

If we legalize gay marriage, we are pretty much saying it's okay for men to have sex with men and women to have sex with women. NO! Ask God. His word is right there in the Bible. Man on man sex is an abomination to the Lord. Woman on woman sex is filthy and disgusting and leads to nothing but pure unadulturated pleasure. If we condone same gender sex, we're offending the whole reason why God put TWO genders on the earth--to procreate. That's what sex is all about!

I'm all for gay marriages and I wish Illinois would allow it here, so that me and my girlfriend don't have to go all the way to Vermont to get married next year. The government needs to realize that they can't control who people love, so they should give them the same rights to marriage as everyone else. No matter what year it is there will always be something this society will just not want to accept. At one time it was interracial relationships now it's same sex relationships, so they need to just let everyone choose who they want to be with. The only states right now that allow gay marriages are Vermont, Massachuttes, and Hawaii, yet I think all states should allow gay marriages.

I think that gay marriages should be legal in the US. beyond my religious beliefs and personal thoughts i completely disagree that anyone should be denied happiness baised on sexual preference- whether they are born gay or a personal choice!!! I am not denied happiness because i dont walk the straight line of perfection, or because i think aborion is wrong... people need ot get beyond their personal opinions and grow up. this is the same shit that happened with blacks, and women... now gays...

I know a few gay couples that have adopted children(seperately of course) and their children are not gay, and dont have any hard feelings towards gays.

I guess that i'm too conservative on this one... I do not believe that homosexual marriages should be legal in the U.S. This country was founded on Godly principles--and i believe that that is why we are in a position of influence--to be a light in a dark place!

I think gay marriages should be legal in the United States. However, I do believe that it should be man and woman getting married to go with my religion but I have to say that everyone should be equal. It is up to them how they want to live their life and it should not be different than anyone elses.

I think gay marriage should be recognised as a legal union between (2)people. I feel adoption is a positive thing. These couples are willing to step up and take care of children that would probably be made fun of anyways for not having a family to call their own. I know a few gay couples and there's no difference in their beliefs. Who is the gov't to step in to say it's unethicial?
They should get all the benefits and health care other married couple get.

gay marriages should be legal in the united states because of the discrimnation laws people have a right on what preference on what they desire one disadvantage of being in a same sex relationship is the fact of not being able to have children unless being adopted. Ebonni Akins
