Pay college athletes?

Should NCAA players be paid to play? Should it be for all sports in NCAA? If no, for what sports should athletes be paid, and why?
Will there be a limit to how much a player can make? Can division II and III schools pay their players too?
Do the players deserve money? If so, why? Will players still take advantage of the system if they don’t get paid? Do you think a scholarship is enough for players already? Where will the money come from? Will teams still be fair, or will the teams with more money dominate?

There have already been many cases of college athletes taking bribes and cheating for eligibility; is it time we made the change to pay our athletes in college to avoid these problems or will the problems get worse?

I think that it would be cool if college altheltes got paid but I think over time it would just be like the pros and be to money drivin and you would have kids moving from team to team like crazy. The cheating for eligablity will never be all the way stoped no matter if you pay the kid or not because he or she cant play if they do not make eligibility period so they will still have to cheat if nessasary.

This is a very current issue, and I feel that NCAA athletes should not be paid. It totally defeats the purpose of a scholorship or even going to college. If your already getting paid to play a sport in college why would you even need your education. This would be your job. I also feel that if athletes are getting paid coaches would have the opportunity to treat them differently and be more demanding. They would really be employees to whoever they are getting paid by. This would cause many controversies with players coaches and the schools.

I think that if a college kid gets paid to play, the money should go to his tuition, room and board, and whats left should go into a trust fund of sorts, and they can't touch it until they are done with school. I think this could get out of hand, though, just as I feel that the pros are WAY overpaid. What happened to playing the sport just for the love of the game? Why does it have to be a multi-million dollar job? All that money could go to something a hell of a lot more useful.

HELL NO. The student has to realize he is playing for a top college. Most athletes that are high calibur get drafted to pros after a year of playing. Scholarships give free rides to student atheletes. What more can a college do for you. Also if you think about it college and universities have expeneses too such as mantenece, paying the faculty etc. If this happens I garantee the college tuition fee is going to increase by a large margin.

I do not believe that college athletes should be paid. I think by paying the athlete it is making college more like the pro sports and making the education part of college less important than the sport. I think scholarships are enough. If the athlete is good enough to get paid for the sport he or she plays than they should be playing professionally and not playing in college. I think the athlete should worry about his education because there are many college athletes that play the entire time while they are in college and then do not go into the pros but instead go out and work in the career field they received their education in.

I think that NCAA players should in fact be paid to play. Players for all sports in the NCAA should be paid the same amount of money across the board. There should be a limit to the amount of money that a player could make playing and I think that division I and II schools should pay their players as well. I think that the players deserve to be paid since they are exhibiting athletic talent and should be compensated for these talents. I think by paying them a set dollar amount would contribute greatly to a reduction in athletes cheating and taking bribes. Scholarships are great but these atletes still deserve to receive compensation for their talents and hard work. The only issue is where the money would come from. I am unsure if the schools, the league, or private contributions would be enough to pay players. I do believe however, there will be a serious reduction in the number of cases where players would be caught cheating and taking bribes.

I do not believe that student athletes should receive money for playing. I understand that it is their passion but their main purpose in school is to learn and obtain a degree. If you are a professional athlete then you should receive money because it is now your job. I also believe that professional athletes are very over played for what they do. You get paid millions of dollars because you can dribble and shoot a ball.

I do not think that NCAA players should be paid. They are playing to represent their school not to support a lifestyle. Not all of the athletes are at a level that deserve an income. Most of the players in the NCAA are receiving scholarships so they are technically getting paid for their time that they are playing. Another reason that they should not get paid is because that most players that are quality will go on to play professional sports and receive they payment that they deserve.

NCAA players should not be paid for playing college sports. First of all it would case tuition hikes for students and higher ticket prices at the door. This would also cause lots of moving from team to team just to get more money. The players do it because they like the sport and paying them just defeats the purpose of scholarships and even playing college ball to start with.

I don't think NCAA players should be paid. It defeats the purpose of even trying for the big leagues. You'd be set right after getting accepted to play college ball. Getting a degree won't be important. If they were paid, I feel as though they may take advantage of it and would not try as hard in things. It ruins the love and passion for the game.

I don't think that college athletes should get paid because the experience they get from playing is already the price. I also think that a scholarship is already enough because they will maintain there grades in order to keep playing the game they love and if players will get paid problems will come up and get worse the payments for the school might rise up and fewer students can get enrolled.

Ok I can't honestly say much on this because I am one who defiantly doesn't think they should be getting paid and end of story. They should get paid if and when they make it into the pros. They are going to college to get knowledge and try to prove themselves worthy for the pros. If they are worthy then they get drafted then comes the money.

I do not think that college athletes should be paid. They are already offered scholarships many times, which is just like being paid. This way, they do not rely on their sport being their only option after college. Professional athletes are paid because that is their job. College athletes may turn professional, but a lot of them don't. They also get an education, which in the long run may be more valuable to them than their sport.

I don't think that NCAA players should be payed because it's not a career at this point, just a sport in school. If they are good enough to play pro then they should get paid because they worked hard for that. But if they are playing in school they should focus more on school work rather than their sport and this would make it a lot harder if they were getting paid because that's all they will be thinking about and suffer in school. But if they do start paying college kids than only the ones that work the hardest should get paid, not everyone, not all players work as hard as everyone else on the team. I do think that scholarships are enough for players, think about it, its a free ride through college just for playing a sport. The cost of college would rise like crazy if they started paying their players and the parents and other students would have to pay it, even the ones that don't play sports so they would suffer financially. I think eventually the sports wouldn't be about fun anymore, they would be about money and the players next paycheck.

It would be alright to pay college athletes, but they already got a free ride in their schooling, and college cost a lot already.
