Concealed Carry in Illinois

Should Illinois pass a law that allows trained and registered citizens in the state to carry a concealed firearm? Would carrying a concealed firearm prevent crimes? If so, what type of regulations and permitting processes should be put into place to control who carries and who does not?

Every state in the United States except for Wisconsin and Illinois have some type of concealed carry law in place. Most of the states require a class, a certain level of accuracy, age limits, background checks, and fingerprinting. Statistics say that once concealed carry laws were put into effect, violent crime rates have gone down substantially.

I believe this may change crime rates. People that meet the qaulifications for carrying a weapon have the ability to defend themselves. But at the same time we might have a rise murder rates.Just because you are concealing a weapon doesnt mean you will walk away untouched. You might shoot someone or have shots fired at you. This will just be a double-egde sword in the end.

I do think Illinois should pass concealed and carry law. I am an active gun owner and would like for that law to pass. I do believe that most states that have concealed and carry have lower crime rates. Would you rob someone knowing they had a gun? Now for the requirements, I would say a all weekend course 8 hours a day. Then you must be 21 or older because that is the age when you can own a handgun and also have a background check and fingerprinting. You wouldn't want a felon to carry a gun either.

I think that it would be a good idea to have a concealed weapon law but there has to be some serious security to go through to get that. I think you should have to carry some sort of license and have to take a class to know how to use that weapon, also have a serious background check and also be of a certain age.I don't think something like a gun should be carried. I think that guns are just a coward way of getting out of a situation and does serious harm to people who do and don't know how to use them properly.

I do think illinois should pass a law saying that people that are trained should and registered should be able to carry a weapon. But i think it might make the crime rate go way up if people under 21 are allowed to carry a gun. The town would be destroyed.

I'd like as few people as possible to carry weapons. In much of England the police still do not carry guns, and their crime rates are lower than ours. The more people who carry guns, the better chance of guns going off, intentionally and unintentionally. People who fly into fits of rage (there are probably more of these types than you think) will more likely hurt or kill someone if they are packing heat.

If you are stopped in the street and asked to hand over your money, and you pull a gun instead, this might diffuse the situation in many cases, but in other cases the gun will have to be fired, which means shooting someone or someone shooting you (sometimes with your own gun).

Guns are a power trip. Carrying a gun, you can walk down the street feeling powerful, like, you're not to be messed with. It's sort of like walking down the street with pockets full of cash--you feel like a big shot. I think each person before deciding to carry a gun should ask themselves if they really want to be put into a situation in which they might have to use the gun to shoot someone. Is the power trip, or even the security you get from being armed, really worth possibly having to shoot someone? Anyone who answers that question quickly and easily has probably never been in the situation where they had to shoot someone. It is not easy to shoot someone, even a criminal who's in your face on a dark street. He's going to sense your hesitation and take your gun from you--at least half the time, I'd say.

If you have to carry a gun for safety, and some people should and do, you should have absolute comfort with your weapon, which might take an hour or so, or might take a month's worth of training, depending on the person and the weapon. Because there are so many variables (who's good with a gun and who's not, who's likely to shoot himself in the thigh while getting the gun out of his pocket, who's going to use his gun in cases when he shouldn't, such as little disputes during a traffic jam or something), I think the fewer people carrying guns, the better.

Another question: if you are going to carry a gun on you, doesn't it make more sense NOT to conceal it?

Yes, i do feel that Illinois should pass the law on carrying a firearm, because it will make the regular citizen feel safer and when im of age i plan on getting one too. Carrying a firearm might lower the crim rate some. It should be the same regulations as the other states who allow it.

I think that Illinois should pass some type of concealed carry law permitting citizens who have passed a class, are of a certain age and are also within a certain accuracy to carry a gun. I believe that if you are willing to go through all of this just to be legally able to carry a gun you are going to be very unlikely to commit a random crime when you could just carry a gun illegally and shoot someone. I think it would make Illinois safer because you would have trained citizens there that could defend people that cannot defend themselves. I also think that you should have to carry the gun in a certain way just like how there is a legal way to transport a gun in your car.

I believe that Illinois should have a concealed carry weapon. Without a concealed carry law, the only people carrying concealed weapons are criminals, and police usually aren't at the scene of the crime until it's too late.

yes , i believe that theyshould pass a law for this to be done because this world is no longer safe, and eeryone needs to proptect themselves in all ways possible. Carrying a concealed firearm probably will not prevent crimes but it ,may slow a few down. The people who have the rights to bear arms should have certain qualifications and rules that they have to abide by. If they disobey these rules then they will have to have their rights taken and the guns will have to be confescated.!!!

I believe if Illinois passed the concealed carry law crime rate would be affected tremendously. It would allow people who are trained and registered to carry a firearm. I think it would prevent crime because people will now think twice about committing a crime because the victim might be carrying a firearm. I think in order to carry a firearm you must be a registered citizen and also take a class on how to properly shoot and handle a firearm correctly.

I believe that if someone is qualified to carry a gun then they should have that right. Maybe if that law is passed then people would me more safe on the streets. Also some people may abuse this right so restrictions would have to be put in place. Maybe you would have to take tests after so many years just like having a drivers license.

I am from Indiana and the law there is you can carry a concealed weapon in some places. I believe that it is a good law to have in place and can decrease the amount of crime in an area. The only problem that I see with this law is large cities like Chicago could have a little bit more problems with more guns in the city. So there would have to be certain laws put in place the keep the guns safe.

I don't think this would change the crime rate. Well hell it may even increase it. Some one carrying a gun who seems perfectly fine snaps one day and starts shooting off rounds well then you may say the other people around him would pull out there and shoot him well what if they hit an innocent by standard? also the damage is already done. Also if some one wants you dead you will most likely be killed if you have a gun on you or not. So no I don't think people in Illinois need to carry a gun around on them every where they go.

I think that Illinois should have the conceal and carry, it will definatly help with crime around here. I think that it will give people more of a respect for one another, I mean if you are going to pay the bill to have a licences for a gun to carry your not going to be dumb with it. I think it is a big responsability for a state but I also think that it is a good choice.

I absolutely feel that Illinois should let people carry concealed weapons. Especially if they have to be trained and registered. This would definitly bring crime rates down because the people that do the crimes aren't goanna care if they get caught with a weapon because they don't follow the law. If the criminals know that law abiding citezens aren't goanna have a weapon on them it makes it taht much easier for a criminal to commit burgalaries and so forth. So if law abiding citrizens could carry weapons then in certain cases they will be able to fight back against another person that has a weapon.

I think that we should have a concealed carry law in Illinois. Obviously other states have been successful with this, and I think that we could too. Illinois seems to have a lot of laws that other states do not, and I think that we should have some type of law like this.

I think that people who know how to use a gun should be able to carry one. I wouldn't trust people, like me, who have never shot a gun to carry one because that's an accident just waiting to happen! I do think that crimes would decrease because people would less likely want to try and steal something knowing that that other person has a gun, and the house robberies would decline as well for the same reason. There should be an age limit definatly because someone under 10 doesn't need to know how to shoot or have a gun. I'm thinking 21 years old is a good age to have a gun because then you have common sense and more control rather than a high school student who might get pissed off at another student and pull out their gun. I also agree that people who want to carry guns should have to take a class and have background checks as well. Don't want to have felons carrying guns!

I believe maybe some people should have a weapon, but not all some would use it for bad things. It great if everyone could protect themselves from harm. there will always be other who only looking from themselves.

Yes i think Illinois should pass a law that would allow citizens to carry firearms. The people who are going to do harm with firearms either already have them or will get them illegally. There is no point in punishing the people who have done nothing wrong and don’t commit crimes. As long as they can pass the age limits, background checks, fingerprinting, and are able to have a certain level of accuracy; they should be allowed to carry a concealed firearm.
