Alcohol vs. Smoking? Jail time for weed possession?

Alcohol vs. Marijuana

Why do you think that the government thinks it is okay to drink alcohol but it isn't okay to smoke marijuana?

Every year 85,000 people die from being intoxicated with alcohol, but there has not been one known cause of death due to marijuana, why is that?

Why is alcohol legal when it kills people every year, and impairs your abilities to where you can no longer function?

Do you think that things would be a lot different if marijuana was legalized?

In the year 2006 they arrested 829,625 people for marijuana. Do you think they should have to go to jail for just possessing marijuana when more serious crimes like rape and sexual assault should be taken more seriously?

I do believe that marijuana should be legalized. The government could regulate how much someone could own or sell. Also they could tax marijuana as well. The government banned alcohol for a short while but then turned back to their old ways. If marijuana was legalized I believe crime rates would go down and they could focus more on crimes that actually change peoples lives like: murder, hard core drugs, and sexual assaults. Some states have already legalized marijuana for medical uses so the government is just moving slowly.

Once marijuana becomes legal the government could focus on the real criminal problems such as homocide, actual drugs suchs as heroine and crack, and forms of abuse.

I think it's because the government has just thought marijuana is this horrible drug and since it's a drug they don't want it in the US. I still believe though that marijuana shouldn't be legal but I do understand that it is safer than alcohol but I still don't think it should be legal but at the same time the government should still be taking rape, sexual assault, child molesting more seriously.

The government probably thinks this because marijuana is considered to be a drug. Alcohol is too but they sell it in stores, marijuanna is sold on the streets.I honestly do not believe that marijuanna can harm your body in any kind of way. Alcohol on the other hand is legal because it is sold within the stores, people who drink should know their limits before they try to drink alcohol.Yes i believe that it would be a lot different because people won't have to hide the fact that they smoke it. I don't feel that marijuanna should be illegal in the first place, so therefore no one should ever have to go to jail for just having some on them.

WHILE I AM COMPLETELY AGAINST USING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL, I ALSO DONT THINK THAT WE NEED TO OVERPOPULATE OUR PRISONS OVER SOMEONE SMOKING A BIT OF POT. I FEEL LIKE IF THE PERSONS DRUG OR ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION IS ONLY HURTING THEMSELVES, THEN SO BE IT,BUT IF THEIR DRINKING AND SMOKING LEADS TO SOMEONE ELSE BEING HARMED ,THEN SURE...PROSECUTE. THE PRISONS ARE ALREADY OVERCROWDED, SO LETS KEEP THE WORST PEOPLE IN THERE AND LET THE STONERS JUST STAY FREE TO KILL THEMSELVES OFF SLOWLY.

I do not believe that marijuana should be legalized. Yes, people die every year from alcohol poisoning but the reason people do not die directly from marijuana is becaues you cannot die from just smoking marijuana. Both drugs impair judgement and could cause problems. I do not know enough about the medical uses for marijuana to say anything about that other than that people have had to deal with illnesses forever and there are probably other types of medicines that could help to relieve the pain and suffering. I do believe that people in possesion of marijuana should still serve the time that they received for commiting the crime. Marijuana is illegal, that means you are breaking the law if you have it just as someone is breaking the law for more severe crimes.

I believe that marijuana should be legalized.I do not smoke it, nor will I ever, but people are going to smoke it either way. If it is legalized then at least the government could tax it, and it could help our economy instead of overcrowding prisons and taking up time that law enforcement could be using toward eliminating other crime.

Well trust me if the government though it would help out America and help catch us up with bills and such then I really do think they would make it profetiable. Also weed can mess with the way you function. It makes reaction time slower, you smoke to much of it you can't move (have the feeling of being magnetised to the ground). Makes a people lazy, would make America even more over weight. I also think it may make you more stupid. I save if it is against the law then you should have jail time for it just like people who abuse alcohol.

I guess I do not have much of a background with this topic because I have never done drugs. The nice thing about alcohol is that after work you can stop by the bar or a friends house and have a beer or two. With that little amount of alcohol you are not impaired, where as if you stop by a friends house to smoke a joint than you are high and should not be on the road.

I believe the war on Marijuana is strictly a political issue. Many issues contribute to why it is a political issue, too many to go into on this blog comment. I agree wholeheartedly that alcohol is much more dangerous than marijuana and this is one reason i believe that marijuana should be legalized. I think alcohol is legal because it has been around for so long and also that many people are willing to spend money on it therefore the government can tax it and make money for the state. I do not think legalization of marijuana would have much of an impact on the use of it. I think it would go up slightly, but it is so readily available right now i do not think it would have that much of an impact on users. I think marijuana possession is less harmless than alcohol possession and i believe violent crimes should be taken much more seriously.

Marijuana should be legalized; the government could then put a tax on it which would make a lot of money. Also if they legalized marijuana we could stop spending so much money on tracking down people who are selling. We waste millions every year on law enforcement to stop marijuana from getting into the USA. There should also be rules and regulations on who can sell / produce marijuana. People go to great lengths just to buy marijuana; some people have to go to shady areas where they are surrounded by violence and drugs that are a lot worse.

I think that marijuana should still be illegal, but I don't think that jail time is necessary. I think that certain actions for both alcohol and marijuana requires consequences, but few need jail time. They are not that severe of offenses.

I don't have a problem with marijuana being legal, if the government can tax it and make the economy better than do it!. I don't think that people who have marijuana or caught having it should be taken to jail, like other people have said, put the people who have done a serious crime (murder, rape, robbery) in jail where they belong. I think those crimes are a little more serious than pot smoking

Marijuana is better then alcohol, drinking and driving never mixed. while on the other hand Marijuana there had never been a report of a car crash during smoking marijuana.
