Are we over populated?
How much is too much?
It begins growing very slowly, but over generations the growth rate increases more and more rapidly, similar to a snowball effect. It took the human population thousands of years to reach 1 billion in 1804. However, it took only 123 years for us to double to 2 billion by 1927. The population hit 4 billion in 1974 (only 47 years), and if we continue at our current rate, the human population will reach 8 billion in 2028. Doubling from our present count of 6.8 billion to 13.6 billion will have a much greater impact than our last couple doublings combined.
Will we run out of resources? Do you envision other problems caused by overpopulation on the earth?

luckily there is no immortality as far as we know so to an extent, yes we're gonna get realllly crowded, the thing is what will technology be by that time with it's crazy advances in the past 10 years alone?? If there is a issue with resources we may end up just going to war with eachother and everyone will die until there are enough resources for the few people left. Hopefully i won't be there for that :)
Over population is something that we have no control of therefore i have nothing really to say but it will eventually happen unless we get some plague that wipes out have the population, then it will go back to normal and then repeat itself, or it wont, either way well see what happens.

Though this sounds very bad there are population control methods. one of them is war. Tr5ue death is sad, but war dose help the flow of the econamy do to less people mean more jobs available else where.
Though personally I am not sure what all we can honestly do about the population growth, except not have kids as much.

this reminds me of movies like the invasion or the happening where the world is overpopulated and the environment goes into protection mode. i know this is farfethched but its obvious we are overpopulated. lots of people die everyday but lots of people are also born everyday. we cant control it without a massacre and death already has a huge affect on the individual. murder is wrong so we just have to let the population do as it pleases and hope for the best. i dont think its that big a deal anyways. there have always been a lot of people on earth. sam tomson
Overpopulation is an abstract idea here in the U.S. where we have abundant resources, but in many other countries, overpopulation is a reality. There are obviously places in this world where the human population far outstrips the resources to support them.
It's easy to say you can't force people to stop having babies, but actually there may be a way. Numerous studies have found an inverse relationship between education and economic development, particularly in women, and fertility rates. The more a society, particularly third world countries, invests in education, particularly female, the less babies children tend to be born to a family. Some countries, like Japan, are actually seeing a population reduction.
In the future, as the world population, and demand for resources grow, wars will be fought over food, water, and energy. Seemingly, the only way to prevent such drastic measures of "population control" would be to strongly support educational and economic development programs, especially in third world societies.

I think that we will have issues with the environment more than anything. The more people we have the more of the earths surface is being used. We may in many years not have as much wildlife, and forrests as we do now. They say for every person born one dies. They always take count of people being born but,not the ones that die. I think as time goes on we adjust to the population. I think it will be many years when we are not even around that they have major issues with the earth not able to with stand the population of humans.
i really do think we are over populated. millions of people in the world today is having a baby. i bet someone right now is having a baby in anther state or country. even when i go to the store you see alot of people with many kids. yea the world is over populated and i dont think that would be good for the future. i dont think we would run out of resources in this world. but i still think with the world been so over populated there could be other things that can affect the world.

We don't have any control on the population. I mean you can tell the moms to stop having kids, but i don't think that will happen. We would have to either just kill people or the new born babies would have to be killed and i don't think moms would like that and i wouldn't like that either. We probably will run out of room and some people may go to war just to see who will survive and get to live in the over populated world which i don't think is good because i don't want to do. There is one thing we could do but i don't think anyone would want to. I think the goverenment could set a rule saying only so many children pure family, but i wouldn't like that either. Its just anther way to stop over populating the world.
Aubrey Welch
I don't believe that there should be any restrictions on how many children you have, so therefoe i don't really know what to say about overpopulation. But i can say that people these days seem to be having less children then there parents did, so i don't see it being that big of an issue.

I believe that babies are a gift from God,but I know that the future for some would be taking care of their children. too many issues already about the economy, and the right for freedom . Why would anyone want to wake up to more controversy? Truly, I think that people are going to use whatever resources that are out there to their fullest. Until ,they are all used up. Americans are becoming very greedy! They have to use up all the resources on the earth. As far as the future of the planet, leave it in the hands of God. Tracey Boswell
Runnig out of resourses is the least of our problems. Human beings have been on this earth for many years and still are finding out new and better ways on how to manage spending their time here on earth. We do have alot of problems with over population because it not only causes a problem for humans but for the enviorement, animals and other things as well.Only God knows what the future holds but whatever happens we will be here to see.
S.Cooper
There really is very little to do about over population except for putting a limit on how many children someone can have.
Sarah Albin
Yes, there will be major problems. We won't really run out of all resources but some. I think the biggest problem would be jobs. If the population keeps growing, there will be less jobs and more poverty. Even now with this economy, a job is hard to find. there isn't really anything we can do about it, although China did, but we don't want to live that way. It's hard to tell what will happen in the future. I know what would help is adopting rather than having you own baby, but every one wants their own babies and a lot of them.
Samantha Odendaal
I do not see overpopulation becoming a problem in our future. A lot of our resources are renewable and just as many people are dying to match the current birth rate. If anything the worst i could see happening is America being put in China's situation. The government will put a number on how many kids can be in each family if we get to overpopulated to lower the number of procreation.
I believe that we will overpopulate in the future, and after that happens then we will depend heavily on our resources which will eventually run dry. If it is not the lack of resources that gets us, then disease is bound to be a factor. As we become more and more crowded disease will be more prone to spread, and will spread much easier and quicker.
Kenneth East
I don't think we are over populated yet the main concern is food. the first signs of overpopulation is when there are mass food shortages. There is only so much farm land in the world and when continue to reduce it the more likely we are of over populating.
I dont think popualtion is a problem, but i dont know what the future holds. Yes, people is born eveyday,as well as people die everyday. There is kind of a balance there. Not to metion , we are losing alot of people to major disasters. We as the people can not control the population, but we can make room. We have places that have alot of undeveloped land. As the population grows, the government needs to develope these lands. If they was to turn them into homes, this will create more dwellings. Turning the land into businesses, will create more jobs.

The world has plenty of resources to last a very long time. That said, we STILL need to be good stewards of what we have (worldwide too). A creationist, I believe that everything that we need was purposely put here, we just need to take care of it and use it wisely.
People live much longer today, contributing to the overall problem of overpopulation, but nature takes care of itself to a large degree. How many natural disasters that wipe out large numbers of people can you remember? Diseases, plagues, wars? Even though the age rate for death has risen in part, how often does the results of stress and overindulgence take up some of the slack made from better health care? Where does birth control and abortion play into this? The US alone is killing millions every year.
A concern tied to the overpopulation is what we do with the urban sprawl. Again, an issue of resources, farming is taking a hit. How can we keep up food production when farmland is disappearing? Stewardship needs to be worldwide and involves everyone being good stewards, conserving and letting go of our selfishness to HAVE. In our quest for ME, we don't look out for the benefit of others yet to come. We in the US, as world leaders, need to become World Changers, taking a stewardship message to the world.
