What do think when you hear of the ''American Dream''? Now-a-days in our society what does it mean to have this? Would you consider fancy cars, lavish homes, glamourous clothes being it? Do you think living life in a comfortable setting making ends meet with some cash left over is more like this dream that many immigrate to our nation to achieve? Or do you think a life where you're barely making enough to put food on the table but you're happy and so is your family is more like it? Do you think it just means that you have the freedom of religion, speech, and press? Is it a place where everyone is equal and really treated the same with no exceptions? Is the Dream a never-ending party? Do you think that today in our society, in the state that it is in today, it's much harder to achieve your idea of this Dream? What's it take, in your opinion, to get what is most coveted by thousands and thousands of people in countries that don't have an opportunity to succeed?

This is a great question. I think that the American Dream means something different to everyone. For those of us lucky enough to be born in America, I think it means that we do aim a little higher towards materialistic items compared to someone who has never experienced the freedom to say what they want to say, attend a church of their choice, or make decisions about where they want to work or live. America is in an economic crisis right now, but we are America, things will get better and at the end of the day, we live in a great country and we are free to make our dream whatever we want it to be.

I think that the American dream is just surviving. If your making enough to just get by, that is the American dream. I think that when many people think about what the American dream is, they think of being rich and having it all. But in my opinion being happy and being with family and friends is the American dream. To be free of persecution and judgement and to not be mistreated by our government, is the American dream. I think that as long as you stay uncorupted by the evil in the world you will be living the American dream.

The American dream is freedom all in one! You have the freedom to be what you want and do what you want. You have the chance to become the person you have always wanted to become. It's an endless freedom for people in America. The power to control what you want in your life.

I think that the American dream is all of the above. It's what makes you happy. My opinion of the American dream when I was first married is different than what I think it is today. The basics are still there, happy healthy kids and grandkids, enough money to feed and clothe my family, a comfortable home and friends to share all these things with. The think that has changed is me. I want a fulfilling job along with it so that is why I am going to college right now to try to achieve it.

When I hear American dream I think of living out what you have always wanted to do with your life. Material things are not an American dream. Yes, it's nice to have those things but it's no dream. A dream is something you want to achieve. I think living a dream is when you have enough to get by and a little to treat yourself and family. That's how my family is and I honestly don't think any of take it for granted. A dream is def. not a never-ending party. It's just being happy and doing what you always wanted. It's a little harder to achieve your dreams but it's always worth it. Hard work and a lot of it, is the best way to get what you want.

American dream is different to everyone. I think it has a lot to do with how you grew up, and how your family was with money. My American dream would be to: have a good paying job, working on a family, nice house, paid off or almost paid off, nice car, and money put up in savings.

the american dream can be whatever you want it to be. if you want fancy cars and huge houses you can go for it and follow your dream. i think the american dream is just flat out being happy with your life, where ever you decide to take it.

i think the american dream is living your life the way you want and being happy with what you've got. yes, a lot of people in america strive for the highest & don't really look at different things. but, to me it's being happy with the life you have, and living it to the fullest. you have the right to be what you want and to do what you want, and i think that people are doing just that, maybe not everyone but a lot of people are and they're happy with that.

I think everyone in America has a different outlook on 'the dream.' It can mean anything from actually being free to being wealthy. To me though is just fulfilling my own aspirations in life. Which are to get though college, get a job, get married and have children. Simple as that. Getting a job is way up there in having the dream for me because I can't get any of the rest without that first. Many people think that way so they probably think they won't ever be living the dream because they will never be rich but that's not what I mean. I just want to enough to get the things I need in life and some that I just really want. As long as I am happy with who I have in my life I think I will be living my dream.

The American Dream to me is finding happiness within myself and the ones I choose to have in my life and that choose me in their lives. Money is great but money doesn't make me happy, the people I love and care about make me happy.

My American Dream is simple I think of it as living life comfortably. Being able to help support my family by having a job, some day having my own home and car. My American Dream doesnt consist of much just a loving family who i can support and be there for.

The American Dream means different things to different people. To me having the freedom to do what you what and make your own choices. Things don't make the dream people make their dreams come true. Everybody just needs to live their lives how they want to and their American Dream will come true.

I think that everyone has something different in mind when they think of the American Dream. I think that living comfortably is the American Dream. Being able to live in a home, have a family, and being able to spend on things you want such as a vacation is the American Dream. I do think for some achieving this dream has become a lot harder but eventually it is achievable. I think that getting a college degree and a stable job a person would have a better chance of achieving this dream. If they work hard for what they want they can have it. The dream may just take some time. It can't be done over night and thats what some people may think.

In my eyes the american dream is the white picket fence with two kids and a golden retriever. But everyone has a different view on this topic. This question is different then most of the others one, and I wasnt really sure how to answer it. Many people that come to the US except to live some part of the American dream, and they should have a chance to experience it.

I Personally think money doesnt bring happiness what so ever. What I would call a dream would be reaching the goal Ive set in my mind. Everyone is different and they set their goals based on their needs and their believes. I live a very comfortable life and my only dream is to become what I have set in my mind and that is education.

I think the American dream is just to be happy where your at and who your with. Growing up I had two brothers and a sister and my parents never had tons of extra money, but I loved my childhood What they did have, they always used it to help us with whatever we needed. So I think that me and my family were living the American dream.

When i hear those words i think of it as a country where the oppourtunity is there for you. What ever you want to be you can be, i'm not saying that is always the case because some people dont try hard enough. If you want something you can chase it because all the oppourtunity is there. Also whatever you may chase or choose to be, if it makes you happy that should be your american dream no matter what the pay.

The American Dream, to me, is exactly what our founding fathers planned it to be. The ideals are preceived as a promise of prosperity for its people. Citizens of every rank can achieve a "better, richer, and happier life." In the Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal" and that they" are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."
The American Dream has been credited with helping to build a cohesive American experience but has also been blamed for overinflated expectations. Some commentators have noted that despite deep-seated belief in the egalitarian American Dream, the modern American wealth structure still perpetuates racial and class inequalities between generations. These commentators note that advantage and disadvantage are not always connected to individual successes or failures, but often to prior position in a social group.
Since the early 19th century, the United States has regarded and promoted itself as a beacon of liberty and prosperity achieved through a combination of the philosophical and ethical principles propounded by its founders and implemented in their most perfect form. In tandem with this is its natural wealth and bounty within the New World.
The meaning of the "American Dream" has changed over the course of history. While historically traced to the New World mystique — the availability of land and the continuing American expansion — the ethos today simply indicates the ability, through participation in the resonant society and culture of the United States, to bring prosperity to oneself. According to the dream, this includes the opportunity for one's children to grow up and receive an American education and its consequent career opportunities. It is the opportunity to make individual choices without the restrictions of class, caste, religion, race, or ethnic group.
(WIKIPEDIA)- I agree with this 100%

I think the American Dream is different for every person. For me it is having the freedom to make your one choices. Unlike other countries in America you get to believe what you want and you can say what you want.

I don't think there is any right way to live life. I think the American Dream simply refers to Opportunities and not allowing them to slip away. Being happy with what you have and not wanting more.
