Stephanies abortion topic

Should abortion be illegal? Why do you feel this way? If you're against legalized abortion are there ANY conditons in which you think it's ok to have an abortion? If you're pro-choice and okay with some abortions, which abortions would you not support? What consequences do you forsee if the United States criminalizes abortions?

While I truly have my own personal convictions about not having an abortion, I don't think it should be illegal. I do however think there needs to be better counseling and more alternatives presented to women considering an abortion.

I don't think abortion is okay for someone who has irresponsibly had sex and doesn't want to have a baby. I do believe that sex is for the purpose of reproduction, not the purpose of abortions. I also understand that although an abortion seems like a quick way to cover up a "mistake", many women are haunted by the emotional consequences of their decision for years to come.

I do realize that some girls get pregnant at a very young age and are not emotionally mature enough to be a parent - that is were the alternative of adoption should be suggested before an abortion - there are plenty of adults looking to adopt babies.

However I would never want to deny a young girl who lives in an abusive home the choice to have an adoption. The risk of being severly beaten by her abusive parent because she got pregnant, may result in her death as well as the baby's.

Every person's story is different. Some girls are raped by strangers or even by relatives. Which would be emotionally harder to live with? Knowing you had an abortion or Knowing that the baby you were carrying was the result of that terrible rape?

I also know there are times where a person cannot physically carry a baby safely. Their lives would end because of medical complications should they choose to remain pregnant. I think again this is a situational choice a person should be allowed to make.

Regardless of people's beliefs, I wish the world would be compassionate and caring to those who feel they have to make the choice of having an abortion and to those who have already made that choice. People need to remember that no matter how strongly you feel about something, you have no idea what you would do in their situation.

I believe abortion is always wrong. There's no way to say, "at this point the embryo is not concidered a human, and at this point it is." I don't mean to sound harsh, but if someone is in a situation where they can't have a baby, they could have prevented pregnancy and THAT was the choice they made. I also believe that that baby is not part of the mother's body, and it's just not her choice to kill it.

i forgot to add that i think adoption is the best alternative and i understand that there are situations in which pregnancy is beyond control of the mother.

I do firmly believe that abortion should be illegeal in this country only when the mother's life is not in jeopardy. I'm pro life which means that I want both the Mother to live and the child to live. How can we honestly say that the Mothers life is less important than the baby? That's where I think some ultra anti-abortion activist go wrong. There is going to be instances where rape is involved as well. In this case as well I think it justifies the need for an abortion. When it comes to a woman being able to go into an abortion clinic and getting an abortion just because she doesn't want the baby, that to me is just wrong. I would like to see the United States go back and legislate this but we're a long way away.

I also agree that adoption is the best alternative.

No i don't think abortions should be illegal because it could be a life or death sitution and the only hing is to get abortion. I feel this way because if somebody gets raped and they so happen to get pregnant i know for a fact i wouldn't what to keep that baby because that would remind them of when they got raped and bring back all the memories. I feel that if you think you won't be able to provide the right care for the baby then have an abortion or if you feel that you truly made a mistake and wouldn't be able to support that baby like you want too.I support mostly all abortions except if you intentionally get pregnat then you need to raise that baby. The consequences that I see happening are that baby's would end up dead on the streets or homeless and wouldn't have a place to go.

Abortion is always a very touchy subject. I have always been very against an abortion. There are many things that you can do to prevent a pregnancy. The best way to do that is ABSTINENCE!!! So many children are born due to irresponsible teenagers just wanting to have sex. In no way should an innocent life be taken just to make the "parents" feel better about it and try to cover up thier "mistake." They should have thought about thier mistake 9 months ago.

People argue that if someone is raped that they should be allowed to have an abortion. Wrong again. Many people out in this world want to have a child and arent capable of doing so. They would be delighted to adopt that child if the parent didnt want to keep that baby. I view that precious life is the good that can come out of a bad situation.

I have always believed that 2 wrongs dont make it right, it just makes matters worse.

From Debra Porter:

I am pro-choice, and believe that the mother should do whatever she feels is best. I believe that if a woman was raped, then she definately has the right to abort that baby, but if she was drunk at a party and had sex without really knowing she was, then it is not right to abort the baby. It was her fault she didn't know her drinking limit, or she doesn't didn't care. A lot of people do things that involve having sex and babies -- without thinking about it beforehand. I think anything that has to do with sex and babies is a MAJOR decision in a persons life, regardless of their age. I also agree that adoption is the best thing to do if the mother doesn't want the baby, unless, like Jan said, there would be chances that the mother wouldn't survive childbirth. But then it is still the mothers decision if they want to take the chance to save the baby and have it be adopted, regardless if they could die or not. It really depends on the situations as to how to mother got pregnant, and what's going on in her life. I think abortion should not be illegal. I believe that if the USA makes abortions illegal, it will not stop people from giving other people abortions and it won't stop people from receiving them. If it is illegal, abortions will not stop happening-I'm sure of it. It will only make it more complicated to make abortions illegal. So if a woman was raped and wanted to have an abortion and it was illegal, if they really didnt want the baby at all, I'm sure they would find someone to perform that abortion, and it could be VERY UNSAFE. And that just isn't fair.

Abortion is a difficult sitution to come up with solutions for, because it is not just black and white. There are some gray areas.

I feel abortion is now being abused. That's what makes it so hard to deal with.

I feel that there are situations that are more acceptble for abortions, such as: mother's health/life at risk and rape.

But, today those are not the only reasons people are getting abortions. They are getting abortions because: they're too lazy for birth control; they're too young (funny how they realize that after the fact); they thought a baby would bring them closer to their lover, but it didn't go as planned; they decide to finally glance at their future.

There are so many methods af birth-control and many inexpensive ways to get it. Everyone knows the cosequences of sex. If you are old enough for the crime then it is you responsibility to accept the consequences.

Abortion should not be used as an easy escape route for lack of responsibility.

I don't think abortion should be illegal but it definately isn't "right." Abortions should only be allowed on a case by case basis. If some teenager is raped, or a teenager gets pregnant and is incapable of carrying the baby, or the woman is not physically fit to have a baby, are all good reasons for an abortion to be considered. If an abortion is wanted a team of physicians should be advised and be able to okay the abortion for it to be able to happen. If abortion is determined to be illegal, I forsee that there will be alot more teens having kids and not being able to support them. Abortion could be good, but is also bad. I belive it just depends on the reason.

I do NOT think abortion should be legal under ANY circumstance. Abortion is basically murder. If you have an abortion you are killing the baby inside of you. If you get raped and you end up pregnant...i would have the baby and if you didn't want the baby give it up for adaption. That is A LOT better than killing a baby that God wants in this world. God made you pregnant for a reason...you should carry that pregnancy out. I think if abortion is legalized i personally think all of the younger years would end up having them. Not too many teenagers want to have babys to ruin their chance of getting a schlorship, going to college, and meeting new people. If you have a baby that young, you will end up ruining all of that, but you could always give the baby up for adaption.

I dont believe abortion should be illegal. Saying that doesnt mean that I think abortion is right either. Personally I believe that if a mother chooses to have an abortion, then thats her choice.

I would hope that any woman who was contimplating an abortion would take time to seek counsiling and to seek alternatives, such as putting the baby up for adoption.

Making abortions illegal would futher fill our already overcrowded jails with more non-violent offenders.

In the end I dont say its right, but I dont say its wrong. Its the mother whose going to have to look at herself every morning in the mirror and be reminded of what shes done, so if she can live with that because she and her partner were irresponsible, then thats her choice. I do support fully, those who would choose to abort, due to the possibility of health risks to the mother or child, or those who have been sexually assulted(again I would still refer to counsiling to seek alternatives)

I think abortion is a choice that should be carefully thought out. It should not be chosen on a whim. I think that within the first few weeks, although it still causes me trouble morally and ethically, it is acceptable. After that, when the embryo is now a fetus, that is not okay. A woman knows when she's pregnant. If she has any doubts about whether she wants to keep her baby or have an abortion, she should have the courage to decide within a reasonable amount of time and take care of it before the child has developed too much. I am pro-choice, but I cannot emphasize enough that abortion should be something that is very well thought out, and taken very very seriously. It is a choice that could come back to haunt the woman later in her life when perhaps her circumstances have changed. Whichever way you look at it, the fact remains that you are terminating a life.

From Barb Beals:

I think that we should have the freedom to choose, but the sense to know right from wrong. I think that babies are the most precious gift from God. How many women would give their left and right arm to have a child? It's a blessing not to be taken lightly. If you aren't in good enough health to have a baby and a pregnancy would endanger your life, USE BIRTH CONTROL. Too often abortion is the only birth control used. This is not only inhumane, it's infanticide. People talk about the holocaust and how all those Jews were slain by Hitler's henchmen. How horrible that was and how sad the loss of life. Are babies not live? Are they just a blob of tissue that is disposable? I think that the people that think like this should be disposed of, they probably also think that capitol punishment should be outlawed because that is killing a fellow human being. I think we as a nation need a lesson in morals and values. What kind of people are we when a not-yet-born baby is killed? Just act as though it's just another day?

The right to choose, the morals to choose life.

I think everyone should have a choice. Some people have medical issues, where it would effect their life if they had a baby. Personally, I would choose adoption, if I had a baby I could not care for. A lot of consequences for criminalizing abortions could be overpopulation (just a guess) because that seems to be an issue now. Also a lot of young teens, and not even teens like 11 and 12 year olds would be having babies, and a lot of them are not mature enough to "give them up" for adoption. They would be too selfish and wouldn't understand they would be giving their child a better life.

I feel the baby has a right to life as well. I feel that a woman who is raped, can give the baby up for adoption. If the issue is the mother's or the baby's life, that is a different story, and the only justification for an abortion..even though miracles do happen.
I was a witness to an amazing birth, the mother was told due to medical reasons, the baby could only live for maybe an hour after birth..she was told to abort, but due to her beliefs, she would not do it. After the birth of their son, the baby "pinked-up" and looked at all of us that were present, after about a half hour I noticed he was turning blue, and 58 and 1/2 minutes after his birth he died. We all prayed and wished him into God's care. I would not trade that almost hour of my life for anything..it was miraculous.

Abortion..one person dies and the other is scared for life.
