[Please watch the video above. Thank you.]
What are your views on gun control? Would crimes like the Trayvon Martin murder be less likely to occur if we had stricter gun control laws instead of the concealed-carry laws prevalent today?
Give your opinion--which side are you on in the Trayvon Martin case? How sympathetic are you for George Zimmerman?
In the video, what do you think of Bobby Rush's behavior on the House Floor? Should he have been kicked out as he was? At the beginning of the video how did you think things were going to pan out?

Whether the accused is guilty or not, many a recent high-profile case has been decided long before it came to trial — by the media! One would think that truth and facts alone would decide innocence or guilt, but apparently an individual is considered guilty, or innocent, these days by virtue of a kangaroo court of public opinion alone.
Pretrial publicity, racial pressures and media pundits all play a major role. And when you add unfortunate statements by people in power who should know better, what real chance does anyone accused of a crime have? Guilty until proved innocent indeedGeorge Zimmerman has been arrested and now justice can begin. What happened that night will come out in the trial, and let’s hope that truth and justice will prevail.May the family of Trayvon Martin have a verdict that will bring them peace, although it will not bring their son back. But I do believe that this trial will bring up the issue of color and racial bigotry in America. The overarching issue in the Trayvon Martin case is what to do about the lethal combination of Stand Your Ground laws and the permissive licensing of permits to carry concealed weapons. Race and profiling are certainly relevant, but this confrontation should have never happened.
The other major concern here is whether an ordinary citizen who is victimized can receive equal justice in a vigilante society.

I think any citizen who is not a convected felon should be able to carry a gun on them at all times. I think that this Trayvon Martin case has brought a lot of questions to gun control law. But I don't think stricter gun control law would have changed the out come out this instead of the concealed carry law. I am on the Trayvon Martin side but also I don't think that every citizen would shoot someone jumping over the fence with their hood up. But i really don't know whole a lot about this case. Maybe he was jumping his fence to rob him...but who knows. I have no idea who will come out and win this case but it has for sure raised question on racism here.

I am a gun owner and collector. out of all the states Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws and there is still a lot of shootings and gun related crimes. Concealed carry actually has brought crime down in every state that has it. Incase you are wondering Illinois is the only state without concealled carry. Im pushing for concealled carry in Ilinois so i can carry and feel safe when i go out. There is just to much crime these days and a lot of people like me don't feel safe. As for the Trayvon case Zimmerman should have listened to the 911 operator and not fallowed trayvon. It just shows how stupid people are these days.i think this case is not an issue of gun control but a case of "intelligence".Kyle 8:00

My views on gun control are that people should have a gun but they have to pass the background process and they should use their gun a specific circumstances. Crimes like Trayvon would still occur. Racial profiling happens in different acts like fighting, beating, and gang actions, it still happens. I am for Trayvon Martin; he was a teenager not in trouble, not acting a foul. Just was getting back from the grocery store to get something to drink and a snack and someone took his life. Zimmerman should get sentence because he knew what he was doing. He called the police and they told him that the boy was fine, he wouldn’t harm anyone. Zimmerman didn’t listen. I think that Bobby Rush behavior was fine. He stood up for what he believed in. It’s America we have freedom of speech and that’s what he did. He shouldn’t have been kicked out it was a hat or anything. At the beginning I kind of knew what he was going to do because it was something that was going on around the world, everyone had on hoodies to support Trayvon. (Sharday 8:00)

I think that convicted criminals should not carry guns. People who have never been in serious trouble with the law should be able to have and maybe carry guns. I do not own a gun and probably never will. I do not think if people could carry guns around with them that a Travyon Martin situation would happen often. I do not know too much about this case. Travyon could of done something to get himself in that position or he could of done nothing wrong.

I dont think having stricter gun laws is the case. Everyone unless mentally ill knows right from wrong. And what Zimmerman did was out right wrong. I'm on Trayvons side of course, why wouldn't I be? That could of been my brother, my cousin anyone walking home that day. I have no sympathy for George Zimmerman he killed a teenage boy for no reason and definitely not in self defense. I dont think that Bobby Rush should have been kicked out he was making a point.

My views on gun control are that people should be able to have a gun if they wish too. Though like nowadays you can’t have a gun well there are people who still have one. I think that just because of this even though they get stricter gun control at the end they find a way to get a gun. So I think that making the laws stricter would not have had affected the murder of Trayvon Martin. I am on Trayvon Martin side because there is definitely racism going on from what I have heard but I really do not know much of the case. I do not know if the killer had his reasons or not. Though, police still to do its job and they had to have arrested the killer in that moment. This just proves that the law never does what they have too and that is why our country is the way it I because the government always looks for the way out of problem without seeing hoe affecting it is to everyone; like in this case of Trayvon Martin. On the other hand, I believe that Bobby Rush was trying to make a point and like everyone else he was ignored and kicked out. I believe that is not fair. They could have waited until he was done and then the court person say what he needed to say but they way they treated him was disrespectful.

As a young adult coming out of a violent neighborhood, gun control should be strictly enforced. I was literally brought to tears as more and more young teens (primarily african american) are dying from being shot. Parents should NOT outlive their kids. The Trayvon Martin case is a an awarness to parents that they need, absolutely, NEED to have a more close eye in watching their kids and make sure their kids aren't the ones killing other kids. No one on this entire Earth, regardless of authority, has the right to play God. Especially on our kids. Right to bare arms can only go so far. I have no sympathy for George Zimmerman. Following a person because YOU think he's dangerous is downright ridiculous. I hope Zimmerman will think about his actions in his new home called jail.

I am a FOID card carrying Illinois resident that cant understand why this is the ONLY state that does not have a conceal and carry law. Criminals have been carrying guns for years. This will never change. It is the law abiding citizens that should be able to obtain their FOID card and be able to bare arms. I have the most respect for my firearm. It is a very powerful weapon and one that I purchased and learned to use for protection. I am the primary protector for my children in my household and I take that very seriously. I do not want to be another statistic. I currently have an ex-husband getting ready to be released from prison this summer who tried to kill me several times. I would like the opportunity to be able to protect myself from him and any other predator that may come my way. People never think it will happen to them. Criminal minded sociopaths are everywhere. This case needs to be tried in a court of law. I happen to think the Zimmerman should have backed the hell off like the 911 operator told him to do. Also, the use of force was too great for the situation. Bobby Rush was obviously impassioned and he has a right to speak under the constitution but he has to also follow the rules which govern his position. He took a stand for something he believed in because he had a forum he could do so in. I commend him for that. Everyone has a right to th3eir own opinion. I think Bill Cosby missed the mark here. It was sad for me to hear him speak on this because there is a huge issue in this nation that occurs every day. It is racial profiling and it has happened to me and my children. It happened to me because I was with black people in a car with tint and rims (my car, I'm white), and to my 20 year old son in our own neighborhood for 4 years of his life on nearly a daily basis. Young black men are typically questioned by law enforcement for simply walking down their own damn street! Don't let there be more than one because you are definitely getting stopped then. They wonder why they run when they see the police coming. My son actually did run because a purse had been stolen from a car in the neighborhood and he knew who did it. He had nothing to do with it but as soon as the police were called and he was walking home and heard them turn the corner, he ran and hid in a back yard and laid next to the foundation of someones house because he knew what was coming next. He would be detained and questioned and they were not going to believe him.

I think the fact that this case has become a nationwide media-frenzy has tainted peoples view on it. Zimmerman has been portrayed as a ‘racist-profiler’ who was out to get Martin from the start. The truth is we have no idea what type of person Mr. Zimmerman is, and as such who are we to judge before reading the evidence? Florida has a controversial ‘Stand your ground’ law, which describes how an individual can legally use lethal force before retreating if they feel they are in danger. If Zimmerman truly was acting in self-defense, then he has a valid reason for shooting Martin.

The witness testimony has been intriguing during the case; two ‘witnesses’, who didn’t see anything but heard a ‘boy crying’ before hearing shots fired, have had their testimony thrown out by Sanford police. After a short audio clip played to Martin’s father, he indicated that it was not his sons voice screaming. The prosecution has also previously stated that they did not have enough evidence for a manslaughter conviction. Why they are going for second-degree murder now, I have no idea. At the end of the day, the courts will decide, but I’m not convinced ‘justice’ will prevail this time.

i dont think that having stricter gun laws is going to make a difference. people having been carrying around guns, and they will continue. i dont think the Trayvon murder case would have happened any other way. I dont care for Zimmerman. he is a murderer. PERIOD. i dont understand how he got out on bond and why he was not cnvicted of murder in the 2nd degree. that whole case is jsut foul to me. I hate that another innocent, young, Black male was murdered for doing absolutely nothing wrong!!
