Do music lyrics have more power than what is intended? Do they influence the mind so much that they become actions?

No I believe that the people who like those types of music and lyrics probably already had that stuff on there mind anyway. Its probably they theme song in the morning lol.

Lyrics have influences on all types of people. I think it influences children the most. Freedom of speech is aloud in our country so we sometimes over do it in lyrics. They talk about killing people, hitting women,and doing drugs. That is just a small amount of things that the lyrics of some songs talk about. I think lyrics do have an influnence on some people.

I truly believe the youth of today will by influenced music. Good or bad. I know as youth it certainly gave me things to think about doing, but I also knew right from wrong, so I knew they were just words. However, for those kids who are less fortunate and didn't have as good as role models as I had, I can see how they can be easily influenced and let it control some of their behavior.

Personaly as far as we have come in the history of man, and we let the younger generation listen to crap like that. It gives the kids of today a false respect for the people around them. One persons thought in a song will tell thousands of people who hear it that he thinks thats cool. Its not fair to the listeners

I believe that some songs and artists are just shit. There it is. You have all these little gangsters running around Rantoul and Champaign doing things they hear in songs. I think some have competitions as to who can come up with the most ignorant mix of lyrics. People "rap" about shooting people and doing drugs. Its not cool or funny. I think of it as a way to show their ignorance to the world.

I do not think that it is intended to be more than entertainment,i think the listener is so wrapped up in society now days that they think they are cool if they act upon whats being said in music videos and songs.

this question is simple to answer. thoughts turn into actions not lyrics. yes lyrics can give the listener a thought to do what is being sung/rapped but as long as that person was raised correctly or child is being raised correctly they would quickly dismiss any idea that they knew was wrong. when it comes to actions that we preform as human beings it comes down to the choices we have and depending on how we were raised more often determines the outcome of our decision making ability.
I don't think that music influence people on what they do in everyday life, for example, children shouldn't be influence by music because their parents should be there to tell their child rite from wrong! The artist doesn't do the raising.
rap music is bad for your health so not sure.i guess they could thug.
I think if a person is stupid enough to take music Lyrics personally they need to be locked into a padded room alone it is just music.

Music lyrics are even more powerful these days to young children and young adults. They are influenced by the words in the music and artist that they like.

Yes i feel lyrics sometimes can have an influence on some people. However some people already think that way and it just so happens to be a song to back them up which makes them feel rite about there actions. In the end if these rappers didnt rap about sex, violence, drugs or what ever it still would happen in every day life its just music.

Studies indicate that music and their lyrics can have a profound effect physically and psychologically. Music does not cause aggressive, deviant or promiscuious behavior in it self their are always contributing factors.

I believe certain songs really influance young people, more like teenagers,i dont really believe that they would take action to a lot of the songs they listen to,i think they more or less want to look like stars and talk like stars, rather than go shoot someone because this famous guy rapped about it, even though some teenagers are just bad, i think they are much smarter than that.

I belive you have to be immature to let the lyrics of a song influence you. The writers who make these songs are not trying to infuence you to do something,just enjoying their work. To let the lyrics of a song influence you shows you are to young to listen to it.
No I think people do what they do because they want to. No music makes them do anything. It's all in their own mind. Anyone and everyone can speak for theirselves, they may just blame the music for their own stupid reasons.

MOST OF THE TIME THE LYRICS DO INFLUENCE PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU HEAR OR READ SOMETHING AND THEN YOU WANNA ACT THAT WAY. I FEEL THAT MOST OF TIME PEOPLE ACT HOW THEY WANNA ACT SO SOME MUSIC SHOULDN'T CHANGE HOW A PERSON ACT BUT ONLY INFLUENCE THEM IF THEY LET IT.
